HIGH TIMES SoCal Medical Cannabis Cup 2016, opened up last weekend January 28-31, as the first event for the calendar year of 2016 in San Bernardino, California. This event dubbed as a super show 65 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, headlined major recording acts from The Roots, De La Soul, and has a nice lineup again for weekend number 2 this Super Bowl weekend. This 2 Weekend event paneled some interesting speakers such as a panel of 4 former NFL football players that spoke about using medical marijuana to get thru the pain associated from the many years of high impact football.

While sifting thru the villages of booths and tents, all mixed with self-described dopers, bud tenders, bud trimmers, and the many other vendors it seems like the most of LA’s best were a heavy dose of hybrid Extracts, Ice Wax, Shatter and TERP. Awards were a plenty for the best Extract, Concentrate, Buds, roses and other exotic Marijuana products. Booths had major samples that were displayed and sampled by many in the medication area. But, after walking thru the show you wondered if LA has gone to another level of Medical Cannabis, moving away from the traditions of luscious bushes of tall trees filled with buds and roses that are still the staple of NorCal farmers.

However, this show also was heavy with vendors from all over Cali that came to show their large variety of buds and roses. Some vendors were still prepping their products with a handful of hand-picked crews of Marijuana bud trimmers in the back of their booths, as well as others who were adding material in their compact cannabis trimming machines, all getting their best buds ready for judges.

The event had much to offer and this weekend, it looks to close it off again in style with major recording acts such as Wiz Khalifa, Method Man and more. This February 5-7 is weekend # 2 of SoCal’s 2016 Cannabis Cup, and has the feel of a super bowl event that also happens to be scheduled on Super Sunday. A great start indeed for medical cannabis to jumpstart in California as 38 other scheduled events will be scheduled throughout the 2016 calendar year in California. Yes, it seems SoCal Cannabis in California is getting exotic almost daily, we’ll see what other new hybrids will be launching for 2016, stay tuned!

GMP refers to the Good Manufacturing Practice Regulations promulgated by the US Food and Drug Administration under the authority of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (See Chapter IV for food, and Chapter V, Subchapters A, B, C, D, and E for drugs and devices.) These regulations, which have the force of law, require that manufacturers, processors, and packagers of drugs, medical devices, some food, and blood take proactive steps to ensure that their products are safe, pure, and effective. GMP regulations require a quality approach to manufacturing, enabling companies to minimize or eliminate instances of contamination, mixups, and errors. This in turn, protects the consumer from purchasing a product which is not effective or even dangerous. Failure of firms to comply with GMP regulations can result in very serious consequences including recall, seizure, fines, and jail time.

GMP regulations address issues including record keeping, personnel qualifications, sanitation, cleanliness, equipment verification, process validation, and complaint handling. Most GMP requirements are very general and open-ended, allowing each manufacturer to decide individually how to best implement the necessary controls. This provides much flexibility, but also requires that the manufacturer interpret the requirements in a manner which makes sense for each individual business.

GMP is also sometimes referred to as “cGMP”. The “c” stands for “current,” reminding manufacturers that they must employ technologies and systems which are up-to-date in order to comply with the regulation.
