Medical marijuana will become legal down yonder in Australia come November, but it will be tightly regulated and the federal government must still set up a national oversight system.
Talking about putting the carrot before the stick and dangling it in front of the cart! Australia is wasting no time. But, while a new market will open, cannabis entrepreneurs shouldn’t expect an MMJ industry to be fully up and running in Australia any time soon.
Sydney officials reported that it could be “some time” before a fully functioning medical cannabis system is in place and serving patients. That’s fine, more time for the best bud trimmers, bud tenders, and marijuana trimming machines to make the trek and set shop up.
Until now, the Australian government has only permitted medical trials for MMJ – a situation that will change with the latest steps to put the medical cannabis industry on legal footing.
The legalization move came after approval this week from the Therapeutic Goods Administration. The formal decision was published Wednesday. Wow! Immediate approval! wouldn’t that be nice for the FDA to approve that in the U.S. instead of trying to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes.
local medical cannabis advocate said that patients waiting to get legal MMJ would be in a “holding pattern” while a regulatory system is established. An activist in Australia for a well -known Cannabis group, also fretted about red tape, warning that the industry could become prohibitively expensive so that patients would be unable to get legal MMJ at an affordable price. Hmm Something the FDA would love to do in the U.S. but are on the outside looking in.
According to Australian officials, the final decision on legalization came after Australian lawmakers supported revisions to the Narcotic Drugs Act that allow cannabis to be legally cultivated and produced in the country for medicinal purposes.
Well before anyone fires up the Barbie! For those Cannabis trimmers wanting a change of scenery, then it’s a good time to start packing them wet and dry trimming machines, looks like Australia is going to be changing colors from that golden brown to that nice forest green!!
